[due to a SPF problem I'm resending the mail to ensure everyone gets it, sorry about that]
Hello,
We, the Red Hat OSPO Community Infra team, have been maintaining
translate.zanata.org since 2019. When we took over, the future of
Zanata, the software behind the scene, was already uncertain.
Unfortunately it has not received any love (bug or security fixes)
since 2018 and in the end the project halted since no one stepped up to
take over the maintenance. Activity in our instance also has reduced
over time. Therefore we have decided it is time to sunset this service.
On 2024-09-09 translate.zanata.org will be shutdown. Please export all
your data before this date.
To be sure everyone is aware of the shutdown, in case this mail did not
reach them well or got lost in their spambox, we plan to switch off the
service for about a day on 2024-06-03 and 2024-08-05.
There are a number of alternatives with comparable features but
unfortunately they do not seem to have public instances. Here is a
short list of leads if you plan to run you own instance (the community
may also suggest affordable hosting):
- [weblate](https://github.com/WeblateOrg/weblate/)
([sources](https://github.com/WeblateOrg/weblate/))
- [Jabylon](https://jabylon.org/)
([sources](https://github.com/jutzig/jabylon))
- [Pontoon](https://pontoon.mozilla.org/)
([sources](https://github.com/mozilla/pontoon/))
- [Pootle](https://pootle.translatehouse.org/)
([sources](https://github.com/translate/pootle))
Weblate is used in Red Hat projects like Fedora and works well. You can
find container images as well as an OpenShift template in their
installation documentation.
There are free of charge services out there which are not opensource;
they may fit your need but beware not to be locked in a solution your
cannot escape. Moreover certain services also require permission to
exploit your translations to feed into their automatic translation
system, which might not be what you want.
If you are not interested in receiving further notifications you can
easily unsubscribe by sending a mail to
zanata-sunset-leave(a)lists.osci.io (using the same email address we used
to reach you).
Regards.
